As a Coaching Inn, The Lion was built to serve the needs of travelers; offering food, drink and rest. The Webster Family has brought a wealth of experience, a passion for service and a good time attitude, to ensure that everyone wants to return. The Lion is their home and they open the doors to visitors from both local and distant communities.
Visit The Lion today and Matt will be preparing good, fresh food in the kitchen. Sister Lucy will be managing accommodation bookings and ensuring guests have a lovely stay. Meanwhile, their mother Annette is serving drinks and a friendly smile at the bar.
Originally, Annette and her late husband Pete managed The Lion, along with nine additional pubs in the area. Pete had gained considerable experience having worked for leading breweries. His work and passion for food, took him to all corners of the world.
Redundancy provided Pete with the opportunity to fulfil a dream and go it alone. As a nurse, Annette had all the people skills you can muster and a naturally upbeat spirit. Working together, they embraced pub life and drew on support from family and friends to make it happen.
Head Chef at The Lion Pub – Having left Waddesdon School, their son Matt showed flair in the kitchen. His first role was washing up, whilst he completed catering courses at college. He then put his skills to good use, gaining considerable experience in the pub kitchens.
Looking to develop his skills further, Matt was accepted on the 5-star Sensation Ship. This Carnival Cruises training led Matt to becoming the Head Waiter and Chef on the first crew of Queen Mary II. Having cooked in locations around the globe, Matt returned to The Lion.
He is now keen to share his knowledge and experience to develop the skills of the catering apprentices that join him in the kitchen. Leah Johnson, Adam White and Joe Murray have all gone from strength to strength under Matt’s guidance.
Reservations Manager at The Lion B&B – Sister Lucy trained as a bookkeeper and accountant after leaving Waddesdon School. She gained considerable experience in the finance department at M&J Seafoods, before taking on the role of Reservations Manager for accommodation at The Lion.
Lucy doesn’t simply process bookings. She knows that the rooms have to be prepared to a sufficiently high standard to get her mum’s seal of approval! The rooms are clean, comfortable and homely, with the occasional celebrity coming to spend the night.
Catering for All Since opening the doors of their first pub, the Webster Family has served locals, international visitors and even royalty. Everyone receives a warm welcome. Will you be their next guest?
